The Church Needs Me (and You)

The Church Needs Me (and You)

Last week I shared about how much I needed Church.  I am
so thankful I belong to a church where I can expect God's Spirit to minister to
me--through worship, the preaching of the Word and the community of believers.
Life Church is blessed to have servant hearted leaders.  They are
dependable and consistent.  They spend hours in preparation every week to
bring encouragement, exhortation and comfort to God's people.

I am so grateful for those who have committed to serving in
the various places (both overtly and those hidden)  parts of our church.  I began to think about how the Church (or
Body of Christ) needs me!

The Church needs me (and you):

The church needs me to
join in corporate worship.  There are some amazing things that happen as
we come together.  It is not an option in the Word.  It matters to
the Holy Spirit.  There is something that happens when we set ourselves to
come together with God's family to worship the Lord.  It is a step toward
acknowledging HIs Lordship over our lives.  It softens us to His Presence
and allows Him access to our heart.  As a body we are fed the same meal.
We can discuss it and enjoy the shared experience.  The same seeds
of the Word fall on our hearts and hopefully we bear the same crops!  We can
begin to flow together with God’s purposes and plans.

I heard a sad
statistic the other day.  The average
American only attends one church service a month.  It grieved me.  I know there are situations that cause us to
at times, miss, but I believe a healthier approach is to make assembling
ourselves together a priority.  When
Darryl first had his stroke, I couldn’t attend church for over three
months.  Thankfully we continued with our
Soaker meetings (praise, prayer and fellowship), so I wasn’t totally out of
touch.  It was such a celebratory day
when I was able to bring him to church on Sunday.  My soul drank in the Presence of the Lord and
enjoyed the company of all the Saints at Living Word Fellowship in Voluntown,
CT.

The Church Needs Me
(and You):

The Church needs me and you to
find our serving place.  There are so
many different opportunities to help in any church.  God’s Word tells us he has given everyone
gifts and those gifts are needed to strengthen and encourage His Body. These are
areas where we can focus on what we can do in our current season of life.  We have a slot of ministry in our church that
involves people coming each week and preparing materials for the children’s
ministry.  It is mostly a hidden ministry
in the sense that probably only the teachers are aware of, but it helps take
the load off of them.   Not all of these jobs are glamourous, but they
are needed.  Ever wonder who cleans the
bathrooms?  It is probably some form of
clean team.

The Church Needs Me
(and You):

The Church needs me
and you to simply show up to the various outreach ministry opportunities.  Just coming to a corporate event demonstrates
love, caring and support, not only to the ones leading the event but to the
other people in the congregation.  I
really believe in the ministry of showing up, if you can.  We strengthen each other by our presence.

The Church Needs ME
(and you):

The church needs me
and you to pray for the body at large.
As we begin to pray for our local church, our community wide churches
and then the church at large, it helps strengthen the bonds we have with each
other.  When we develop grateful hearts
for those who are serving by earnestly seeking the Lord’s blessing and wisdom
on their behalf something happens in our own hearts.  We begin to stop thinking of “me vs them”,
and us becoming more of a “we” and “us” thinker.  We really are all in this together.  If your heart has become critical of God’s
Church, I urge you to pray for His Body, that He would help us grow and become
greater lights and more potent salt shakers.
Remember they will know we are Christians by our love.

The Church Needs Me
(and You):

The Church needs me
and you to grow as believers.  We need to
stay rooted in His Word and His Ways.  We
need to allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in our lives.  We need to spur each other on to good
works.  We need to love people, encourage
people and become the example of the Church you want to belong to!

The Church Needs Me
(and You):

The Church needs me
and you to stand against the wiles and lies of the devil.  We need to proclaim God’s truth and believe
the best about our brothers and sisters.
I admit there have been times when that negative voice in my head has
said--it won't matter to anyone if you don't go today.  No one really
notices if you are there or not.  I know that I am not alone with these
lies, because Satan is an equal opportunity liar.  He tries his lies on
everyone.  This type of lie and actually it is one of his tools, appeals
to our selfish nature, because it makes our church attendance all about ME.
How subtle and deceitful.  Let’s fight against these lies and when
we do gather together, reach out to new people.
Let those around you know they matter.

Thank you for letting
me share these thoughts with you.  I hope
you find them helpful and encouraging.
It is important that we BE the Church, but I believe that if we are the
church, then we will find ourselves joining together with other believers and
furthering His kingdom here on earth.
Blessings!
